- A sample is raw data that it’s given in input in the system. It can be a photo of a person’s face, or the data gotten by a fingerprint reader, etc.
- The template is the elaborated data that comes from the sample. Nowadays, for security and privacy reasons, it must not be possible to get the original sample for a certain template.
- The gallery set is the set of templates stored inside a system.
- The probe set is the set of samples that are given in input when a person is trying to be verified or identified.
